Basement waterproofing repair

Having determined waterproofing nature, the basement is being dried out.
The brick laying is being plastered and floated, the floor is being smoothed by screed coat of send-cement mortar. After the basement drying out, on walls and floor they apply rubberoid in 2-3 layers with the upstand up to 10-15 cm on joints.
The application of sheets is performed with heated bitum mastic to primed surfaces. Walls priming is performed by cut-back bitumen.
Sheets are adhered from the bottom upwards smoothing carefully. Rubberoid sheets edges are pinched in brickwork joints or are attached by wood strip on nails.
When filling leaks in walls and foundations, the pointing of cracks or defective areas at a depth of 2-5 cm and cleaning cracks from dirt and concrete peaces are performed. Then cracks are being filled with cement of 400 grade with liquid glass.
The received composition is wormed into the crack in layers, until the general thickness of filling area is equal to the thickness of cellar of basement wall. It is necessary to work with the composition in rubber gloves.
Apart from all the wet basement repair measures mentioned above, it is also necessary to clean, wash, ventilate and disinfect cellar and basement from time to time, in order to prevent mildew occurrence.
Disinfection is an important preventative measure, because food products are stored in basements. So it is essential not to let the infection penetrate into it.
It is recommended to use fresh mortar, because it is more effective. Hard-to-reach spots are sprayed with rubber bulb.
A strong manganese solution, also tobacco decoction are used as a disinfectant solution.
More often it is waterproofing that breaks in the basement the first. The question of its repair and reconstruction is always on the first place. Before repairing it is necessary to determinate the level of waterproofing material damage. When applying new layers they should be necessarily attached to old ones, and the material should be the same.
It is laid in ¼ – ½ brick thick. Having finished the wall laying, plaster it with sand-cement mortar. Fill cracks in walls with cement of 400 grade, with diluted silicate glue. Before filling point cracks for 2-5 cm depth, clean it from dirt and old concrete and water it. When floating with the mortar the general thickness of restorable area should be equal to the basement wall thickness. The cause of water occurrence in the basement can lay in coverage layer integrity damage around the building. In this case it will be necessary to reconstruct damaged layer and to make a new leveling of territory near the house.
Break damaged coverage, compact the soil, pour chip or sand and lay concrete or asphalt with preliminarily determined inclination from house walls. When performing wet basement repair, you can increase the width of the pavement to 1.5 m with the inclination from basement walls equal to 1:10. Fill cracks and pot holes in the coverage with sand-cement mortar.
